Inside the Endomembrane System

This is the pathway found inside of membrane-bound organelles that are involved in the making of proteins that will leave the cell. These organelles also each make a special environment(listed above) where certain processes take place.
The Endomembrane system is made up of the Rough and Smooth ER's, the Golgi apparatus, Lysosomes, and Vesicles. The Smooth ER helps synthesize lipids, phospholipids, and steroids, and helps break down carbohydrates. The Rough ER helps with protein synthesis- ribosomes are bound to this structure to deposit the protein inside. The Golgi 'packages' proteins inside the cell to be sent outside the cell. Lysosomes break down cell waste and also are used in Endocytosis. Finally, vacuoles are used by the cell as a kind of housing unit, holding water or food for the cell.
